Dear Mothers, you have nourished us with their blood and milk, we salute you. We are indebted to you for the love and care with which you raised us. We are grateful to you for the wise counsel with which you guided us through many crises.

 

We regret that at the times of your need, we have not always been able there for you. Now the least we can do is to tell you that we love you.

CONFERENCES

*August 12-15, Pune, India: SOUTH ASIAN CONFERENCE ON YOUTH & DEMOCRACY. CONTESTS & PRIZES

 

*Peace Around the World is the theme of Lions Club International’s peace poster contest for students who will be age 11, 12, or 13 on November 15.  More information available from your nearest Lions Club.

 

The winner artist will receive an engraved plaque and a cash prize of $2,500 at a special award ceremony on Lions Day at the United Nations headquarters. The international grand prize winner, along with the sponsoring club president and two family members, will receive a trip to New York for the award ceremony.

 

Each of the 23 merit award winners will receive a cash award of $500 and a certificate of achievement.

 

*Guru Nanak Interfaith Prize New York’s Hofstra University invites nominations for the $50,000 Guru Nanak Interfaith Prize to be awarded, in 2008, to a person or organization for promoting constructive dialogue between communities of different faiths.

 

Nominations should provide a two-page letter describing the nominee and nominee’s interfaith work and should be submitted before July 1 electronically at www.hofstra.edu/gurunanak, by email at GuruNanakPrize@hofstra.edu or in writing to Dean Bernard J. *July 1, 2007 is the deadline for application for admission to the January 2008 session of Rotary Peace and Conflict Studies Program – Strengthening Today’s Leaders to Build Peace to be held in Bangkok, Thailand.   

This is a professional development program through which up to 30 participants embark on three months of intensive study. *To counter the rise of communal politics and to promote secular democracy in India, the All India Secular Forum bring out two newsletters:

a.      A one-page brief published every fortnight as a part of Secular Perspectives edited by Dr. Asghar Ali Engineer.

 

b.     Secular Action Network’s e-newsletter, published every and distributed through different channels, including

In order to broaden the reach of these newsletters, a monthly print edition will be started around August 2007, in English as well as Hindi, Its subscription is Rs. 60 a year.

*Peace Museum:

 

Saad Gadit, a final year student of Architecture at NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi has taken up, as his research topic, designing of a Museum devoted to peace between India and Pakistan. He plans to play with natural light, using different strategies to highlight peace and happiness. In this respect he is looking for help me in developing a design brief and about the artifacts which can be exhibited in the museum.
